What to Expect

Our Student Poster Presentations are an insightful exploration of psychological themes in film. Doctoral students in psychology will present formal case conceptualizations of popular movie and TV characters, delving into their psychological, emotional, and behavioral complexities.
These presentations integrate academic rigor with creative interpretation, offering unique perspectives on how films reflect psychological principles. It involves integrating a theoretical framework to develop a structured understanding of the client’s concerns, as well as to guide how they may treat the character and what interventions they may use. Through visually compelling posters, students will showcase their insights into character development, personality traits, and psychological frameworks. |
The event provides an interactive platform for participants to present their analyses, engage in discussions, and gain a deeper understanding of psychological concepts in popular media.
This presentation fosters creativity, critical thinking, and communication skills while making psychology more accessible and relatable. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore diverse perspectives and gain valuable knowledge from the students' research and interpretations. Expect a range of perspectives as filmmakers, mental health professionals, and creatives present their interpretations, discussing how psychological concepts shape characters and influence narratives on screen. Conversations about character motivation, trauma and resilience, cognitive distortions, relationship patterns, and the ways cinema mirrors real psychological experiences. |
